#030: Big Questions

#030: Big Questions

Jeff & Dave tackle some of life’s big questions that require an answer. With many young people asking such deep philosophical and theological questions today about life and God, we felt the need to give some understanding and answers to a few of them. Kristen Jane Anderson is also back in studio talking about some upcoming stuff she’s doing this year including the Be the Light Walk for suicide prevention in De Pere, WI.

#028: Why we do this show

#028: Why we do this show

Tomorrow, we celebrate 6 years of saving lives at HopeNet 360. So much has happened over these last 6 years that it would take quite a bit to write down. We’ve met some amazing people along the way and continue to see young people find hope. Tonight on the show, Dave and I talk a little about why we do this show. Kyle and Todd help us uncover some of the top 100 things on Twitter that people are giving up for Lent. And we’ll talk about where we’re going as we head into the second half of the first year of HopeNet Radio. Don’t miss the Alice in Wonderland and Yogi Berra quotes, too. Some good thought-provoking stuff here.

Personally, I’m really thankful that Dave Wager and I have the chance to speak into lives every single week. Story after story comes in to our email bag and Facebook page about what’s going on in young people’s lives and we really enjoy the chance to interact with you guys every week. Our guests have been nothing short of God-ordained. To hear Kristen Jane Anderson open up about her seemingly perfect life growing up in her church and with a dad and mom who loved her greatly decide to lay on some train tracks one night to end her life, then, share about how God spared her life. It’s really incredible the conversations we’ve had. A few weeks ago, we interviewed a young man who lost his 13-month-old daughter suddenly continue to keep his faith and trust in God and stay committed to his calling to reach youth through school assemblies.

Too often, conversations can be boiled down to the weather and what’s on TV. All the while, what’s going on inside is being suppressed out of fear of rejection or not being understood. We have to change. We’ve gotta talk about what matters and foster a place of openness to talk about anything we’re struggling with that is without fear of judgment. That’s where those conversations that save lives really happen – when we have people around us who would rather listen and encourage us where we’re weak. That’s what this is all about.

And please, share this podcast with your friends every way you can.

#025: Going through the fire

#025: Going through the fire

In the Bible, we read the story of 3 guys named Hananiah, Mishael & Azariah. Daniel 1 & 3 give us a picture of these 3 guys who are doing what’s right. These people from a new culture gave them these new names: Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego. They weren’t trying to be mean, but if you’ve ever moved into a new city and had to make new friends, it’s not easy. This is an amazing story of 3 young men who weren’t willing to sell out who they were for God to be accepted into this culture.

It nearly cost them everything.

Jeff & Dave complete this month’s series, “If Those Who Reach Could Touch.” Every person is reaching for true relationships. Last week, we talked with Kristen Jane Anderson. This week, we’re deciding to reach through the fire. Join in the conversation!

#013: Life In Spite of Me: Kristen Jane Anderson

lifeinspiteofmebookKristen Jane Anderson sits down with Jeff and Dave to share her story of tragedy and hope on HopeNet Radio. Kristen attempted to take her life at age 17, but God had other plans.

Overwhelmed by wave after wave of emotional trauma, Kristen Anderson no longer wanted to live. One January night, determined to end her pain once and for all, the seventeen-year-old lay across train tracks not far from her home and waited to die. Her story of surviving her suicide attempt is documented in her book, Life In Spite of Me: Extraordinary Hope After a Fatal Choice.

Parents, this is a good show to talk about with your kids.
